Heather Wakefield, UNISON's National Secretary for Local Government has written a very timely piece about the government's recent proposals for a "National Care Service" (NCS). She welcomes the introduction of the NCS but highlights some serious issues about the current situation in care work, in particular, problems with outsourcing; scandalously low rates of pay; workers having to pay for their own uniforms; and patchy service standards.You can find Heather's article here.
